The art is part of Chalk the Walk, which will be held in partnership with the City of Newcastle's New Annual Festival from February 13-21.
Visitors can literally step into the art and become part of the illusion at the Visitor Information Centre, Market Street Lawn, Laman Street and the corner of Crown and Hunter streets. The event will feature the work of Jenny McCracken, Rudy Kistler, Zac Craig and Leo Uribe.
Chalk The Walk founder and creative producer Andi Mether said she was excited to be part of New Annual.
"Now more than ever we need to be supporting our local artists and celebrating diversity in the arts," she said.
"Newcastle has such an interesting history and culture, and our artists are drawing on some fabulous creative inspiration from the city's background, in addition to the New Annual Festival's 'Illumination' theme."
The artists will begin their works of arts today, ready for walking tours on Saturday.
