The region saw 2746 new COVID cases in the 24 hours to 4pm Thursday, up from 2734 reported in the previous 24 hours.
This week has seen a significant rise in cases from 2149 reported in the 24 hours to 4pm Monday, March 21.
Of the new cases, 1028 were recorded via positive PCR tests with 1718 coming from Rapid Antigen Tests.
During the reporting period there were 44 positive cases in HNEHD hospitals with 4 receiving treatment in ICU.
The figures came as NSW recorded 23,702 new COVID-19 cases and seven deaths - one of which was from the Central Coast. There are currently 1182 COVID-19 patients in hospital across the state, with 43 in ICU.
Yesterday, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) recommended a second booster be administered for Australians over 65, Indigenous Australians over 50, those in disability care and those who are immunocompromised over the age of 16 - to be rolled out from April 4.
