The Upper Hunter Squash Championship is not far away with a date to be determined in the next week with players from Muswellbrook, Scone, Denman and Singleton all invited to enjoy a fun day out with plenty of food, drinks, and squash to keep everyone happy. The Night Comp is not far from wrapping up with another full round remaining and after the Presentation Night in mid-June, the Tuesday Night Social Hit will return for anybody looking to learn and enjoy the game as well as the regulars who want to keep their skill level going before the Spring Comp kicks off at the end of July.
Saturday Social Hit
Eight players ran themselves ragged (except Blake, who stood in the middle and hit winners). Hayley and Sarah returned to the courts to dust off the racquets again and enjoy the fun in hitting the ball as hard as you can. Scott, Bruce, and Paul were preaching more games by less running while Matt and Deborah joined in the fun to get a head start on Monday night matches. Don't forget, the social hit is open to everybody every Saturday from 2pm for $10 per person.
Sunday Morning Juniors
The more the merrier. Twelve juniors including 2 new players came to the courts and under the watchful eye of Paul "give me twenty" Watson kept moving with plenty of matches and scoring to keep the blood pumping. Their energy and week-to-week improvement has been great to watch, with everyone willing to learn and have fun.
Monday Night Round 9
Royal Hotel set about regaining the lead with a strong performance against Double Picc winning 17 points to 7. Mark "run all day" McLaughlin had to work hard for his three-set victory over Kris "sleep all night" Agosto 16-14, 15-13, 15-11 while Deborah "who, me run?" Pritchard gave Julie "stop running" Allen a fright narrowly going down 16-14 in the third set. Railway Hotel were equally impressive against Robin Hood Bar Grill 18 points to 6 with Daryl "I'm back" Coveny collecting a much-needed win over super sub Tim "running man" Clark in a crowd pleasing four setter.
At one set each both players threw everything into game three but when Daryl crawled over the line 17-15 the fourth set became a non-event as Daryl cruised home with precision serves and good placement. Sparke Helmore are back with a hard earned 14 points to 10 win over Edward Higgens Parkinson with the return of Drew "steady as she goes" Anderson gaining a valuable game in his four set loss to Belinda "thar she blows" Stephens.
Tuesday Night Round 9
Curtis Gant Betts were in great form to overcome Muswellbrook RSL 17 points to 6 with Scott "burn rubber" McCarthy and Nick "ground control" Havyatt having their usual slug fest. Nick jumped out of the blocks with an imposing 15-5 win in the first set but Scott shook it off to get his line and length in order, taking the next three sets 15-9, 15-13, 15-12 in a thrilling match. Workers Club were also in a menacing mood defeating Autopro 19 points to 5 with Hayden "hitman" Rhook taking out Paul "low blow" Watson in a clinical three sets. WC's Jakub "can't stop the music" overcame Autopro's Mick "the day the music died" McMorrow in a fast and furious three sets with plenty of lengthy rallies and impossible returns that even had the umpire applauding (impartially, of course). Finally, Team 6 are leading Hunter Medical Practice two rubbers to one with a game in hand after Bruce "grand master" Webber overcame Anthony "tic tac toe" Thomson in a well earned three sets.
Match of the week was between Workers Club's Stephen "wind me up" Wylie against Autopro's John "take me down" Taylor and the first set showed both players meant business with plenty of precision shots and tough returns saw the score see-sawing from one player to the other until Stephen fell over the line 17-15 in a thriller. John casually took a drink and returned to tear the court up taking the next two sets 15-10, 15-6 before Stephen came to his senses to bounce back 15-9 and level the match up. The last game ended like the first with both players capable of taking the match until John hung on to get the break and the match 15-13 in a thoroughly enjoyable match.
See you on the courts.
