Tourists like art gallery plan 

Nate Becker, from the United States, said he  walked past the post office regularly and often looks up beyond the fences.

‘‘I wish they would fix it up,’’ Mr Becker said. 

‘‘I dig this city, I like how it combines the old and the new.

‘‘The building could bring so much more to Newcastle.’’

German backpackers Luise Grahl and Tina Schulze from Saxony, and Annika Kretsch from Sinsheim, said they would like to see the post office building refurbished and opened.

‘‘It would be worth it to spend the money because it’s really beautiful,’’ Ms Kretsch said.
