From start to finish the play is filled with Novocastrians, from the writer and director Carl Caulfield to co-director and wife Felicity Biggins, and a cast that includes their daughter, Siobhan Caulfield.
The story is also one familiar to Newcastle - industrial change and the struggles of a city's people.
Set in Newcastle, The Anatomy of Buzz follows the story of salesman Ben Quilty as he struggles to have his voice heard among the relentless drone of corporate buzz words.
He is forced to transform himself into a modern marketing guru in an effort to stay relevant and, as a result, his family life starts to deteriorate.
The play took years to develop and while Mr Caulfield said it was not an autobiographical piece, his outgoing family dynamic had a subtle influence on the finished product.
"This is really about the importance of family," Caulfield said.
"I hope the people of Newcastle will be touched by this performance. I hope they will laugh and that the uncomfortable moments will provoke some discussion."
Having worked on other plays with her family in the past, 21-year-old Siobhan said that performing in such close quarters with her family was easier than she had thought it would be.
"This is my first professional show and it's been a really remarkable experience," she said.
"Although the environment can often be very intense, I feel comfortable working with my family."
■ The Anatomy of Buzz opens at the Civic Playhouse on Wednesday, February 5 and plays until Saturday, February 22. For more information phone 4929 1977.
