The Newcastle Junior Open, a silver Optus Junior Tour event, started last Tuesday with 433 entries from 227 players in 32 events.
Unfortunately the weather intervened on the last day.
Only seven events were completed, with Sydney's Pete De Oliveira winning the 17-and-under and 18-and-under boy's single.
Newcastle's Sarah Smith and Taj Hibbert won the 10-and-under singles.
Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre's outstanding juniors Kieran Slatter and Emily Brogan won the 16-and-under mixed doubles.
The Cougars' Club Easter Fundraising Tournament was a huge success with more than $10,000 raised for the Cancer Council.
Conducted at District Park, the tournament produced some outstanding and crafty tennis from senior players from throughout New South Wales.
Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre also contributed to the local Easter tennis calendar with a junior Hot Shots tournament on Easter Saturday.
Mitchell Wilson-Jones won the green ball competition, with Cade Howell runner-up.
Harry Minter from Taylor Colic took out the open stage.
A number of these players participated in an intensive training camp at Lake Macquarie Tennis Centre the week before and their form certainly benefitted from the week's training.
