Dr Ben Carson gave the congregation a glimpse into his life as a world famous neurosurgeon, author and columnist.
Church public relations director Dr John Hammond said it was an honour to host Dr Carson.
Dr Carson has 38 honorary doctorates and was the first surgeon to successfully separate conjoined Siamese twins.
"A recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian award given by the US President, Dr Carson has twice featured as the guest presenter at the presidential prayer breakfast," Dr Hammond said.
"His latest speech last year in the presence of President Barack Obama [caused] a sensation when he challenged the western world's fixation on political correctness as being fundamentally in opposition to the constitutional right of citizens to speak their minds freely," he said.
"Consequently, Dr Carson has been widely touted as a possible presidential candidate in 2016."
Dr Carson's presentation at Cooranbong described his rise from a troubled, poverty-stricken, non-achieving schoolboy in Detroit, to becoming, at age 33, the director of paediatric surgery at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore.
"Dr Carson credits God with having been his partner throughout his career," Dr Hammond said.
