I WAS bemused to read on Thursday that Telstra will roll out “free Wi-Fi” for a limited time across Newcastle, a service that Newcastle NOW has been delivering since 2013 (‘‘Free Wi-Fi hotspots introduced’’ Herald 20/11).
Newcastle NOW is a non-profit organisation that has offered reliable, free Wi-Fi to all comers, be they local business owners, residents or visitors to the region.
We average 25,000 user logins each month.
It is Newcastle NOW’s mandate to create projects that support Newcastle as a vibrant, smart city. Our many projects, including our free Wi-Fi, form a large part of bringing that vision to life, something of which we are justifiably proud.
We invite all visitors, residents and businesses to access Newcastle NOW’s free Wi-Fi service by logging on through their chosen device and selecting “FreeWiFi@Newcastle”.
