CONGRATULATIONS to the Newcastle Herald for its investigation and report into the recontamination of north Lake Macquarie.
From 1991 to 2003, the No-Lead group worked to protect the children of the area from the threat of lead and other toxic contaminants from the Pasminco smelter.
After a long fight, we secured $6million from the state government for a remediation of contaminated properties.
It is a shameful disgrace on the Environmental Protection Agency and Hunter New England Health to have allowed recontamination to occur.
In the 1990s No-Lead declared that the EPA was so useless that media attention was the only environmental protection the state of NSW possessed.
This was because the EPA only acted when media pressure forced its hand.
What a heartbreaking and pitiful revelation to find that nothing has changed in 20 years.
