After upsetting Brisbane Barracudas 11-8 on Friday, the Hurricanes lost to defending champions Wests Magpies 11-7 on Saturday to fall short of the gold medal match.
However, they bounced back on Sunday to defeat Drummoyne Devils 13-7 and take third place.
Hunter led 8-3 at half-time and were never threatened as Matt Skinner led the scoring with three goals. Dan Robinson and Daniel Lawrence netted two each.
American goalkeeper Justin Parsons was the star for the Hurricanes, making several saves including one from a five-metre penalty.
Hurricanes coach Brett Arnold, who steered the team to the play-offs in his first year in charge, said he was ‘‘the happiest guy in Australia’’ after the bronze medal effort in the club’s 10th season.
‘‘These guys have worked so hard for the last seven, eight months, so they deserve it,’’ Arnold said.
‘‘I think they were a bit overawed yesterday against Wests but they played their best game of the year today.
‘‘We just smashed them. It was a really good team effort.’’
