A DEVELOPMENT proposal for Croudace Bay has hit yet another roadblock.
Monteath and Powys’ application to develop 21 units and five standard houses on the former House With No Steps site on Parklea Avenue was deferred by Lake Macquarie councillors due to road safety concerns.
It was the second time in a month the application had been deferred.
The original plans, which were lodged last July, proposed 28 units.
The plans have since been amended and exhibited for public comment twice.
However, one issue remains: access.
The development application proposes to open up a cul-de-sac on Corymbia Street, which runs parallel to the site, to allow for a through road.
This is because the Rural Fire Service requires two access points in and out of the development.
A site inspection attended by councillors revealed Corymbia Street residents were outraged that this could lead to heavier traffic flow through their otherwise quiet street.
Councillor Ken Paxinos supported the development application’s deferral.
‘‘I feel for these people who one day wake up and see their neighbourhood changing through nothing they’ve done and something they can do little about,’’ Cr Paxinos said.
Councillors asked staff to consult with the development application on the possibility of a second cul-de-sac within the development, so neither interfered with the other.
The matter is earmarked for discussion at the Tuesday, June 9 standing committee meeting.
