LAKE Macquarie City have tumbled out of the finals in the NEW-FM first division soccer competition, with a 6-1 loss to Wallsend at Macquarie Field on Sunday.
Coach Barry Ross said he and his team were very disappointed with the semi-final loss.
"It was one of those days where we just didn't perform," Ross said.
"We were three-nil down after 15 minutes and we never looked like coming back after that.
"We didn't dominate the midfield or maintain any pressure in attack."
Sam Walker scored the team's lone goal in the second half, while centre backs Sean Mathews and Brad Tate were among the Roosters' best.
"Even though we conceded six goals, our defensive line didn't play too badly," Ross said.
It was Ross' last game as coach, who was told by the club he would not been reappointed for the 2016 season.
Ross was disappointed, but he said the club had offered for him to stay on as the technical director.
Despite the disappointing ending, Ross thought the Roosters had a very good season.
"We finished second and only lost four games all year [in the regular season], two at home and two away," he said.
Ross said one of the big positives to come away from the season was the team's attacking ability.
The Roosters scored the most goals of any team with 71, while Sam Walker was the competition's highest goal score with 41.
There is also some exciting young talent coming through the ranks.
"We were able to give at least seven or eight young players an introduction into first grade - now they'll know what to expect next year, and they'll be better for it," Ross said.
"Six of our seven grades have made the grand final. In the space of a season, Lake Macquarie have turned around from a losing club to one with a winning culture."
