LAKE Macquarie City Art Gallery and its Aboriginal Reference Group have received two accolades at the 2016 Museum and Galleries National Awards (MAGNAs).
The gallery was awarded a MAGNA in the Temporary or Travelling Exhibition Level 2 category for its (in)visible: the First Peoples and War exhibition and the Indigenous Project Level 2 category for its Lore & Order exhibition.
Gallery director Debbie Abraham was at the Museums Australasia Joint Conference in Auckland, New Zealand, to receive the awards.
“We are really proud to be working with the Aboriginal community through the gallery’s Aboriginal Reference Group to promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art and culture,” Ms Abraham said.
“As a result of this partnership established in 2000, the gallery is today recognised as a place where Aboriginal voices can be heard and the culture presented, with at least 60 per cent of the gallery’s exhibitions featuring Aboriginal content.”
