But north coast-based artist Chris Hundt was so captivated with the city’s coal-loaders and factories that she has dedicated an entire exhibition to them.
‘‘They are kind of ugly,’’ Ms Hundt said
‘‘But they are ugly and phenomenally amazing at the same time.’’
Ms Hundt, who lives at lush Dorrigo near Coffs Harbour, painted the ‘‘very blokey’’ world in a similar style to the iconic precisionist work of Jeffrey Smart.
She said the coal-loaders on Kooragang Island, which feature in many of the works, reminded her of a giant Meccano set.
‘‘I like mechanical things, believe it or not, even though I’m an artist,’’ Ms Hundt said.
‘‘It’s just so different from a natural landscape.’’
Her exhibition, titled Industrial Landscape, is on show at the Cooks Hill Galleries in Bull Street until November 5.
