Launching last week, The Shared Pear has gathered the community together over a love of seasonal produce, environmental sustainability and ethical food distribution.
One of the founders, Jonathan Dorse, is an enthusiastic member of Beanstalk Organic Co-Op in Mayfield.
“A few of us from Elermore Vale area who love Beanstalk, decided it was time to bring the same concept of seasonal, local and ethical produce to our own neighbourhood,” Mr Dorse said.
“We feel very fortunate to partner with Beanstalk – they’ve been so helpful in not only connecting us with local farmers, but sharing their 13 years of fruit and veg co-op experience with us.”
Newcastle City Council has also helped kick-start The Shared Pear project with a “Make Your Place” community grant given to the small group to assist with start-up costs.
