Holiday time signs have been plastered around the region to urge drivers to stay vigilant near areas where children gather.
The campaign is an initiative of the Little Blue Dinosaur Foundation, established in memory of Tom McLaughlin.
Tom, 4, died in 2014 after he was hit by a car during a family holiday on the Central Coast.
Lake Macquarie mayor Kay Fraser said children were often excitable over summer and could react impulsively near roads.
“That is why the Holiday Time campaign is so important; because it puts the onus on drivers, parents and carers to recognise the potential danger in busy holiday spots and take extra precautions to ensure our kids are kept safe,” she said.
