
A MAN will face court on Thursday after a woman suffered multiple stab wounds in Lambton overnight.
Paramedics treated the 24-year-old woman about 9pm at a Young Road property, taking her to the John Hunter Hospital.
She remains in a stable condition.
Police were called to the scene after reports a woman had been stabbed. Officers were told the man allegedly choked the woman before stabbing her several times in the chest and neck with a pair of scissors.
Newcastle police arrested a 23-year-old man at the scene.
He was taken to Waratah police station and charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, reckless wounding and choke person intend to commit indictable offence.
Police said the pair were known to each other.
The man was refused bail in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday. He will face court again in May by audio-visual link.
A psychiatric report has been requested.
