Having a couple of ARIA Award winners on the bill was always going to help the pulling power of the family-friendly night.
Children’s performer Justine Clarke, and Josh Cunningham, from The Waifs, headlined a list of talented performers.
Also on the bill were characters from the kids’ show PJ Masks, and singers Ashrae, and a selection of judges from the Channel Seven program, All Together Now.
A carols community band comprising Avondale School staff and friends led the carols singing, putting the birth of Christ as the reason for the season.
It was a theme continued by Cunningham who described performing at the carols as “an honour and privilege”.
“This is a fascinating time of year,” he told the audience.
While many people were frantically rushing about buying presents, many others were counting down the days until they could receive and open their presents.
“And then there’s lots of other people at this time of year who are quite deliberate at trying to point people’s minds to what they think of as the reason for the season which, of course, is the birth of Jesus,” he said.
A stunning fireworks display capped a great night.
