The Americana Music Association of Australia is hosing a benefit night to raise funds for Walker's family and celebrate his work. WALKERTHON will take place at Petersham Bowling Club on June 28 and star a who's who of Australian alt-country.
On the line-up is Newcastle's Ben Leece, a good friend and occasional bandmate of Walker's. He will be joined by Shane Nicholson, Kevin Bennett, Jenny Queen, Jeremy Edwards, Peta Caswell, Mark Lucas, Mindi Sotiri, Sam Shinazzi, Peter V Fenton, Abby Dobson and Walker's band The Tender Mercies. More big names are expected to be announced.
"Jason is a musician's musician, if you know what I mean," Leece said. "He's a gun for hire and has played on so many records. He's an incredible songwriter and such a good bloke."
