On Monday June 17 a handbag was accidentally left in a shopping trolley at a retail store at The Junction.
The owner reported the lost bag and later identified several fraudulent paywave charges on their credit card.
The matter was reported to police and the Newcastle property crime response team launched an investigation. As a result, a 36-year-old man was arrested about 12.45pm on Tuesday on Perkins Street, Newcastle.
The male, who was on parole, was taken to Newcastle police station and charged with two offences including received stolen property and dishonestly obtain property by deception.
He was refused bail to appear at Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday.
