The Bears lost Zac Sneddon in the 38th minute when he and Jaffas attacker Luke Remington were sent off.
Skipper Nathan Morris stepped up to score a penalty in the final minutes, but it was Jackson who impressed Jaliens most for his work on then-leading scorer Braedyn Crowley.
"His main task was to get Crowley out of the game," said the former Jets centre-back. "And when Sneddo was sent off, it basically became a one v one fight and he did very well."
The result kept Weston three points behind leaders Edgeworth with a game in hand.
* Valentine will again be light on troops when they meet Adamstown in a catch-up game at Cahill Oval on Wednesday night.
Phoenix co-coach Darren Sills had hoped to get key midfielder Matt Paul back from illness but he remains out after missing the 2-1 loss to Broadmeadow on Sunday.
Brenton Olzomer, Chris Brown, Riley Russell, Ben Hay and Josh Carroll are missing for Valentine, who are two points ahead of last-placed Adamstown. They lost 1-0 to Lake Macquarie on Sunday.
"I was pretty happy with the performance given how many we had out," Sills said of the loss to Magic.
"We battled hard and were in it until the 80th minute. At the end of the day, they had two goalscorers, Mitch Oxborrow and James Virgili. That's what we are competing against, and off the bench was Andrew Hoole and Kristian Brymora."
