Olympic medallists Suzy Batkovic, Belinda Barnes, Ryan Rowland-Smith and Mathew Helm will be among eight inductees into the Hunter Region Sporting Hall of Fame today at Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club.

Batkovic (basketball), Barnes (softball), Greg Primmer (motorcycling), Michael Fitzgerald (rugby union), Rowland-Smith (baseball), Helm (diving) and Ann-Maree Putney (ten pin bowling) will be in the 28th induction along with the hall's first official, rugby union referee Alexander (Sandy) MacNeill.
The hall of fame features more than 300 Hunter people who have represented Australia or competed in an international tournament.
Barnes, nee Wright, formerly of Morisset, was a bronze medallist with the Australian women's softball team at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Pitcher Rowland-Smith, formerly of Wangi Wangi, played 29 times in the US Major League and helped Australia take silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
