Newcastle Art Gallery
Drawing plays a pivotal role in the art-making of James Drinkwater. To celebrate this and to mark the closing weekend of his solo exhibition at Newcastle Art Gallery, Drinkwater is launching his limited edition artist book. The Girl and the Boy with Working Harbour is dedicated to his children and published by PRISM editions. The launch includes a book signing after an in conversation with the artist on Saturday, August 10, from 1 to 2pm.
Open Day
The annual Newcastle ArtSpace Open Day is Saturday, August 10, from 4 to 11pm. Including open studios from 4 to 6pm, exhibition opening from 6pm, then live music, food and a pop-up bar from 7pm. The non-for-profit organisation supports emerging and established Newcastle artists through studios access, weekly artist classes, dedicated artist-run gallery and auspices three artist prizes. 91 Chinchen St, Tighes Hill.

Two exhibitions open at Cstudios Art Gallery on Saturday, August 10, from 3 to 5pm. Gathering a group exhibition of natural history illustration and painting by Ebony Bennett, Prue Sailer, Sarah Duncan, Jessica Black, Tallulah Cunningham and Zoe Lawrence; Plus vibrant watercolour drawings by Dane Tobias in Divine Spaces and Familiar Places.
The Lock-Up
Sydney based artist Emma Fielden's site-specific exhibition AN IMMEASURABLE DISTANCE opens on Saturday, August 10, from 5.30pm at The Lock-Up. Fielden has been exploring the unique nuances of the Newcastle's contemporary art space this past week. Wall crevices and cell bars have been used to further investigate her interest into the nature of infinity.
