Residents in the area of Rainbow Flat, Diamond Beach, Possum Bush, Tallwoods Village and Hallidays Point, north of Newcastle have been advised by NSW RFS to seek shelter as a fire burning near Hillville approaches.

The bushfire is burning in an easterly direction south of Taree. It has crossed the Pacific Highway and is spreading quickly in an easterly direction, the NSW Rural Fire Service has advised.
Firefighters are conducting property protection east of the Pacific Highway, and Lakes Way, Failford Road and Tallwoods areas.
The Pacific Highway has been closed in both directions between Wallanbah Road at Nabiac and Princess Street at Cundletown.
All vehicles travelling north are being held at Nabiac.
All southbound motorists are begin held at Cundletown.
The Lakes Way is also closed between the Pacific Highway and Failford Road at Darawank.
Local residents only will be permitted to continue northbound on The Lakes Way from Bulahdelah, at the discretion of emergency services.
Travellers have been advised to delay their journey and to avoid the area.
