A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted a Hunter police officer, allegedly causing her to require hospital treatment, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Hayden Shane Sutton faced Newcastle local court on Thursday, where he was refused bail after pleading not guilty to a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Police were called to The Argyle House nightclub in Newcastle at about 2am after reports a man had been punched at the Centenary Road venue.
Officers were told Mr Sutton had punched a man in the face.
Police said the 22-year-old allegedly charged at officers and struggled when they tried to arrest him after the Cardiff man was found walking near the licensed venue soon after police arrived.

Police said a 30-year-old female senior constable was knocked to the ground during the incident, falling backwards and suffering soreness to her back, shoulder, hip and wrist.
She was taken to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.
Mr Sutton was also charged with being an excluded person remaining in the vicinity of a licensed premises and three counts of resisting officers in the execution of their duty.
He did not enter any pleas to these charges on Thursday, according to court documents.
Mr Sutton will face Newcastle local court again on December 19.
