THE federal government is reportedly set to award an $11-million grant to upgrade Vales Point power station less than five years after it was bought from the NSW Government for $1 million. The grant is being considered under the federal government's Underwriting New Generation Investments Program. In 2018, Delta Electricity flagged an upgrade to extend operations until 2049. The Lake Macquarie station is currently scheduled to operate until 2029. Environmental groups have slammed the grant plan.

Toronto Foreshore Protection Group says council is stalling
Toronto Foreshore Protection Group (TFPG) has resumed regular meetings. TFPG said it continued to advocate for the prompt resolution of the Lake Macquarie City Council determination in September to defer works on the proposed multi-storey development in Bath Street, Toronto, and to set in motion processes to reclassify Operational land to Community land, to include the Bath Street site in the Toronto Foreshore Masterplan. TFPG accused the council of stalling on the issue.
Water restrictions eased to Level 1 from Monday
WATER restrictions in the Lower Hunter - including Lake Macquarie - will return to Level 1 from Monday, February 24. Recent rain had provided a welcome boost to the region's dams, the state government said. Dam levels had been boosted 10 per cent to 62 per cent of capacity in just over a week. Level 1 water restrictions permit outdoor watering before 10am and after 4pm with a trigger-nozzle hose and washing of vehicles with a bucket, trigger nozzle hose or pressure cleaner. Sprinklers remain banned.
