NNA have been working towards a potential July 18 competition start date but president Cheryl Hernando told the Newcastle Herald they were in a holding pattern until more clarity regarding guidelines was forthcoming.
The NSW Government said on Tuesday sport for those 18 and under can proceed from July 1 and an announcement for senior sport would come later.
"We're still waiting for further information," Hernando said. "With the announcement about junior sport, they've told us they're going to release the guidelines around that. But, if you look at Netball Australia's Return to Play guidelines, we can only move to Level C, which is only 100 participants, up to 10 players per team, no spectators ... Newcastle has 241 teams of junior players up to 17 years of age and we're a little bit unique because we're at the one location.
"We're all very hopeful that we can get some form of netball on the court but it's not as easy as it sounds.
"At the end of the day, we need decisions for all members and we're working towards that. We've got some plans in place to try to get some feedback from clubs within the week and we need to go from there and make a decision."
NNA have held of on a return to training as the current guidelines, Level B stage 1, only allow for 10 participants per group, including coaches, and no spectators. Level B stage 2 allows for 20 participants at training.
"We've said to our clubs it might just be that we just wait until all of the restrictions are lifted and we have either a spring comp, or a summer comp, or 2021 is just going to be huge hopefully. It's very hard," Hernando said.
