Merewether's Jackson Baker was among the standout performers at the Port Stephens Pro on Monday with two heats wins at One Mile Beach. The 1000-point qualifying series contest was moved from Birubi Beach to One Mile for day two on Monday and Baker thrived in the two-to-four foot conditions. Baker won his round of 64 heat with a two best-wave total of 17, which included a near-perfect 9.75. He then easily took out his round of 32 contest with a 15.65 tally. He faces Marlon Harrison, Sheldon Simkus and Great Lakes Pro winner Reef Heazlewood in the round of 16. Baker was a quarter-finalist at the 1000-point Great Lakes Pro, which kicked off the QS series last week. In the women's contest, South African-born Novocastrians Sarah Baum and Philippa Anderson will clash in the round of 16. Baum dominated her opening round on Sunday but scraped through with a second place and score of 8.5 on Monday. Anderson started her run on Monday and easily won her heat with a 12.7 total. Other Hunter hopes, Amelie Bourke and Jasmine Sampson, bowed out.
