The Coalfields club jumped to equal third on the NNSW National Premier League standings following back-to-back results, having been anchored to the bottom of the ladder in round one.
Making the move even more impressive for Richards was the "gutsy" nature of the weekend's performance against Adamstown, getting up 2-0 despite being reduced to 10 men around the quarter-hour mark.
IN NEWS TODAY:
"It was a really gutsy win, especially only having 10 men for 75 minutes," Richards said.
"I thought they actually looked good and were well organised considering."
Weston now face second-placed Broadmeadow, one point above them on the table, at Magic Park on Sunday and Richards says the first-up defeat from Lambton may have actually helped the Bears click into gear.
"The first one dented the pride a bit so to respond by going back-to-back is a great effort. It means we take some confidence into the Magic game, but we know they are a good side," he said.
Richards, a former Weston player, joined the Bears under Leo Bertos this season after having the head role at Broadmeadow in 2020.
He was previously Magic's assistant to Rueben Zadkovich, who is now with A-League outfit Perth Glory.
Richards has also steered Lake Macquarie and Adamstown in the top flight competition.
