LAKE Macquarie Dockers' tough start to the Black Diamond AFL first division season continued with a loss to defending champions Wyong Lakes.
Wyong Lakes 16.9.(105) were clinical in their win over the Dockers 7.16.(58).
Lake Macquarie had plenty of opportunities but lacked the finishing touch, kicking 16 behinds.
Dockers' president and player Brad Farrell said his team was unlucky many times; the ball hit the post on eight occasions.
"There will definitely be some goal-kicking practice this week at training," he said.
While the Dockers didn't get the win, Farrell said he was pleased with the improvement in the team's performance from last week.
"We're building confidence and we are certainly pleased with the week-to-week improvement," he said.
"We had a few key players sit out due to niggling injuries so our captains, Tim Clarke and James Rigby, stepped up and filled the void in the middle."
The Dockers will have two weeks to work on their goal-kicking.
No matches will be played this Anzac Day weekend.
The Dockers will play Maitland in round three of the competition on Saturday, May 2, at Max McMahon Oval, at 2pm.
