A new 110km/h speed limit will be introduced along the Pacific Highway from Heatherbrae, near Raymond Terrace, to the Bucketts Way.
In all, 67 kilometres of the Pacific Highway in several sections from Heatherbrae to Brunswick Heads, near Byron Bay, will have speed limits increased from 100km/h to 110km/h.
NSW Roads Minister Duncan Gay announced the changes yesterday as part of a review of speed zones on 10 major NSW roads.
Mr Gay said the review was done to reduce “annoying” speed-zone changes.
‘‘This is not about whether speed limits will increase or decrease, this is about making roads safer and allowing people to watch the road rather than road signs,’’ Mr Gay said.
The number of speed zones would be reduced from 31 to 26 on the New England Highway, from 18 to 16 on the Bucketts Way and from 21 to 17 on the Pacific Highway.
Speed limits will be reduced on the notorious Bucketts Way.
Three lengths of 100km/h speed limits will be reduced to 90km/h, matching adjoining speed zones.
A 90km/h-section will be reduced to 80km/h and a 60km/h-stretch reduced to 50km/h.
On the New England Highway, 165 kilometres of road will have speed limits changed.
Some speed zones of 60km/h in Murrurundi, Scone, Aberdeen and Singleton will be reduced to 50km/h, and 80km/h sections reduced to 60km/h through Muswellbrook.
