Acting manager waste, environment and rangers Derek Poulton said the information campaign is geared towards getting dog owners informed about where they are welcome.
“Only the waterfront area between [Second and Third Creeks] is lead-free, so people accessing this area from other parts of the beach should keep their dogs on a secure lead until they reach this popular spot.”
Mr Poulton said it was vital owners also took bags for their pet’s waste and removed it from the sand.
Staff will be on the stretch from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, handing out flyers and pet merchandise.
Mayor Kay Fraser said the beach offered a great asset for pet owners and needed to be respected.
“As a dog owner myself, I know how much people enjoy having lead-free areas, such as that at Redhead Beach, where they can exercise and socialise their pets,’’ Cr Fraser said.
“Some people do get anxious around dogs, so it is really important to be mindful of all beach users when your dogs are off-lead and to remember that the lead-free area does not begin until Second Creek,” she said.
