A Lake Macquarie man is preparing to take a truckload of relief items to drought stricken farmers in the state’s west. And the Hunter community can contribute to the load at Speers Point Park on Saturday.

Shane Worrall has been collecting a range of items, including 1000L containers of water donated from people’s garden hoses, in recent weeks in a campaign that gathered momentum with the help of social media.
He will deliver the items to farmers in Coonabarabran, with a focus on people he believes have fallen through the cracks and not received enough assistance.
“We’re going to take it to their doorstep,” Mr Worrall said.
“The farmers I’ve spoken to haven’t had any relief whatsoever. They are the people I’m trying to get in contact with.”
Anyone who has collected items for the Fill a Truck For Farmers campaign can drop them off at Speer Point Park between 10am and 4pm on Saturday.
It comes as the remaining part of NSW not already in drought was officially declared a drought zone on Wednesday.
