WELL put, Graeme Kime (Letters, 20/7). I couldn't have said it any plainer. No-one is to blame for someone taking drugs, but the person taking them should give a thought to those you would leave behind before you shove this stuff down your throat. One word: idiots. Yeah, now we get the left brigade saying it's a sickness. Bad luck? No, bad choice.

SURELY all the publicity spun by City of Newcastle about the driverless bus ('Driverless vehicle arrives', Newcastle Herald 11/7) is merely self-serving hyperbole from the PR branch. After all, Armidale has had the same bus quietly operating all year (Armidale Express 26/7/18) without the same blare of warm and fuzzy accompanying it. Like our expensive "smart poles", I believe the AI-driven bus has yet to demonstrate its worth to ratepayers.

ONE of the greatest leaders of our time is in my opinion German chancellor Angela Merkel. She recently spoke at a ceremony marking the anniversary of the failed assassination attempt on Adolf Hitler, paying tribute to those who stood against the Nazis including the people who hid Jews (BBC 21/7). I believe she is a shining light in an increasingly fragmented world.

AFTER reading Jeff Corbett's article about overrated things ('When high ratings grate', Opinion 20/7) I think that he tops his own list because I find him offensive.
Matt Ophir, Charlestown
IN relation to the head injury assessment in the NRL, I think if the player has to leave the field for a reportable offence then the offender should go with him. The injured player should be replaceable, but not the offender. Get it right.

BRAD Hill (Short Takes, 20/7) has opinions on all topics, now he has turned on the Melbourne Storm's Cameron Smith. I do not condone the salary cap rort, but to blame Smith is way off the mark. Turn on the administrators, Mr Hill. As far as the Alex McKinnon incident, whilst at the time Smith's comments where not a good look, I am certain that he did not know the tragic accident Alex had suffered. He is just not that sort of man.

YES, Peter Dolan (Short Takes, 19/7), your Jesus did famously say let him who is without sin cast the first stone. So why don't you counsel your mate Israel Folau over that instead of supporting him at every opportunity? After all, he chucked the first one (SMH 20/7).
John Arnold, Anna Bay
IN reply to Brad Hill's (Short Takes, 19/7) claim that religion is the source of all evil, I am agreed. If people stopped believing in all fictitious gods and myths, the world might be a better place.
David Davies, Blackalls Park
TOTALLY agree, Brad Hill (Short Takes, 19/7). I believe that Israel Folau will one day end up like the rest of us; maggot food.
