Juju's vision was recognised last Saturday at the National Indigenous Music Awards in Sydney with Album Of The Year for Native Tongue and Song Of The Year for the title track.
The Album Of The Year category was particularly strong, as Juju defeated folk legend Archie Roach (The Concert Collection 2012-2018), roots-rocker Dan Sultan (Aviary Tales) and rising pop-indie stars Tia Gostelow (Thick Skin) and Thelma Plum (Better In Blak).
Despite Juju winning best album and song, rapper Baker Boy claimed Artist Of the Year.
SEWELL POPS IN
IF you're stopping in for a spot of late-night shopping on Thursday at Maitland's Green Hills you might catch pop singer Conrad Sewell.
The teen heart-throb is bringing his publicity trail to Sanity from 5pm to meet and greet fans. Back in May Sewell's debut album Life debuted at No.1 on the ARIA charts and his singles Start Again and Healing Hands have cracked the top 10.
TASTY LINE-UP
THERE is more than good food on the menu at the Tastes Port Stephens 2019 festival on the weekend of August 31 and September 1.
Across three open-air stages there will be a program of free live music by 16 bands, covering everything from Dixieland to contemporary jazz. The line-up includes Newcastle legends Fish Fry, Jude and the Dude, Jugalug String Band, Footloose Band, Half Nelson, The Tangled Souls, Pocket Jazz, Rehab Brass Band, The Djangologists and Queen Porter Stomp.
Funk-jazz 10-piece The Hot Potato Band will also perform a ticketed show at Soldiers Point Bowling Club on August 31 as part of the festivities.
BUTTERED UP
THOSE cheeky Brisbane hip-hop lads, Butterfingers, are headed to the Newcastle Hotel on Saturday to unveil some new material among their old favorites like FIGJAM, Yo Mama and I Love Work.
After an eight-year hiatus Butterfingers returned in 2017 with the singles Big Night Out and Bullet To The Head.

NEWCASTLE musician Coral Lee is hoping to get punters dancing at her new residency at Quill & Compass in Darby Street.
Lee and Tim Merrikin kicked off their fortnightly residency of rock'n'roll and rhythm and blues music last Thursday and will return on August 22.
ADRENALINE SHOT
CROCODYLUS' recent tour supporting red-hot pub rockers The Chats resulted in several positive outcomes.
Not only did the Sydney garage three-piece get to take advantage of The Chats' rising popularity to due to songs like Smoko and Pub Feed, Crocodylus also joined their indie label Bargain Bin Records.
On Tuesday Crocodylus unveiled Adrenaline, the first track off their forthcoming EP Enjoy, which will be released on Bargain Bin Records on September 27. It'll be followed by a national tour that passes through the Cambridge Hotel on October 12.
