Although far from a football nerd, if Petratos does not have a ball at his feet, he is watching it, analysing the next opponent, plotting the next win.
"This week with Christmas, we got time to spend quality time with the family and get the energy back up," he said. "Family time is family time. I spent the time well."
Come Boxing Day it was back to business ahead of a must-win clash against an equally desperate Roar at McDonald Jones Stadium on Saturday night.
The Jets are coming off consecutive heavy defeats to Melbourne City (4-0) and Perth Glory (6-2) - a fortnight in which they have dropped to the bottom of the ladder, behind Roar on goal difference.
Rather than dwell on the slide, Petratos said the focus had been on the positive aspects of the Jets' game.
"We have to stay positive," he said. "Some games haven't gone our way obviously. We have kept our heads and trained very well this week.
"If we get a few results, things change. We just have to deal with where we are right now, focus on the game at the weekend and get the result.
"We need to get our roles right and continue to work as a team."
Like the Jets, Brisbane have struggled for form in the past three weeks, going down 5-1 to Sydney and 2-0 to Western United before the bye last round.
In the head to head battles, the Jets have notched five wins and a draw (2-a) in their past six encounters with the Queenslanders.
"We have looked at the positive things we have done in the past," Petratos said. "We have matched up well against them and we will take any confidence we can from any stat. I don't look at stats much personally, but I know teams who we have done well against.
"Every team is difficult to play against. They are a strong team. If we do what we have been doing at training we will get the result."
Coach Ernie Merrick is expected to make at least one change from the outfit that surrendered late to Perth.
Northern Ireland under-21 international Bobby Burns is slated to come in at left back for his first start.
"He is a very aggressive player and a good youngster who wants to prove himself," Petratos said.
Burns is part of a back four determined to keep tabs on former Jets striker Roy O'Donovan, who has contributed six of the Roars' nine goals.
"We played together for two years so everybody knows him at the Jets," O'Donovan said of the Irishman.
"He is a guy who can pop up and score at any time. The boys have a job to do on him and I'm sure they will do well."
