Lukas Gremm scored in the first quarter and Angus Abbo in the third as Souths kept the Rosellas at bay. Joel Markwell netted a consolation goal for Wests in the closing stages.
Also at Newcastle International Hockey Centre (NIHC) in the midweek timeslot Norths thumped University 9-0 with hat-tricks to Ky Willott and Rory Walker.
Meanwhile, two matches (Norths v Wests, Souths v Gosford) missed on August 9 when NIHC was closed because of coronavirus precautions have been rescheduled for next month. Gosford and Uni were recently awarded competition points for earlier forfeits from the Seapigs and Wests respectively during the COVID-19 crisis.
