Dylan Holz scored twice as Edgeworth equalised three times then came from behind again in the shoot-out to beat Magic in the major semi-final and move into a sixth consecutive grand final. The Northern NSW NPL premiers won 4-3 on penalties after the match at Jack McLaughlan Oval finished 2-2 at full-time and 3-3 following extra-time.
On a heavy pitch, Magic looked to have won through when Ryan Ensor scored from point-blank range off a ball from David Ifield for 2-1 in the 84th minute.
However, substitute Holz finished with a great touch in the 87th minute off a through ball from Will Bower to send the game into extra-time.
James Virgili put Broadmeadow back ahead in the third minute of extra-time with a strike.
In steady rain, Holz knocked in a goal-mouth scramble in the 106th minute, only a few seconds after Magic appealed unsuccessfully for a foul by Josh Evans on John Majurovski. Richards was then sent off after remonstrating with officials. The minimum ban for match official abuse is two matches.
Broadmeadow again took the early advantage in the shoot-out when Tyson Jackson hit the Eagles' first attempt into the post.
Magic led 3-2 before Mitch Rooke, who scored the 10th-minute opener for the visitors, struck his chance over the crossbar. Ayden Brice levelled it up before Eagles goalkeeper Shayne Van As denied Sebastian Burich.
Teenager Damon Green then put the 2019 champions through to the decider. Player-coach Josh Rose had scored Edgeworth's first equaliser, in the 45th minute.
Broadmeadow next week host the winners of Sunday's Newcastle Olympic versus Maitland minor semi-final for the other place in the grand final.
Magic had led on 10 minutes when Rooke scored with a free kick that deflected off the Edgeworth wall.
Rose equalised with a quality strike after a run and cross from Brice and lay off pass from Keanu Moore.
