Mark Edward Burkett, 46, and John Robert Thomas, 30, appeared in Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday and pleaded guilty to entering with intent to commit serious indictable offence.
But the alleged principal offender, Mark Burkett's 22-year-old son Kyle Burkett, who is accused of stabbing the two men during the home invasion at Hawks Nest, intends to plead not guilty and will likely face a trial in Newcastle District Court.
A lengthy text message exchange between Kyle Burkett and Megan Elizabeth Bowater - detailed in court documents - allegedly shows Kyle Burkett intended to "save" Ms Bowater from the 53-year-old stabbing victim and "f--- him up in the process".
The text messages during the afternoon of June 29, 2020, allegedly show Kyle Burkett trying to organise a lift from Gosford to Hawks Nest to confront the alleged victim and include Kyle Burkett asking Ms Bowater numerous questions about whether the alleged victim had access to any weapons or a phone, had a dog and how much drugs and cash were likely in his possession.
When told the alleged victim had two mobile phones, Kyle Burkett allegedly said: "Okay we're gonna have to cut the cord straight away".
At 10.30pm there was a knock on the door and three men were let inside the house, according to an agreed statement of facts.
Kyle Burkett is accused of confronting the alleged victim upstairs, assaulting him and asking him if he had any money before Kyle Burkett allegedly stabbed the man seven times in the back.
Mark Burkett, Mr Thomas and Ms Bowater were not aware he allegedly had a knife until he produced it during the fight, court documents state.
Kyle Burkett is also accused of stabbing the 53-year-old's elderly father when the man came to his son's aid.
The group then fled in two cars, with Kyle Burkett allegedly later texting Ms Bowater to ask: "Is he still alive".
Ms Bowater pleaded guilty to aggravated enter dwelling with intent last month and will be sentenced in Newcastle District Court.
