Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp said the meeting was positive, and attendees communicated "very clearly" to Mr Toole "just how big an issue this is for our local community and that time is absolutely of the essence".
"It was a big effort to get the acting premier engaged," Mr Crakanthorp said. "He inherited a lot of projects from the former deputy premier and didn't have to take this one on, so I went and saw him and managed to convince him that it was a very significant issue to my community.
"This is the first place in the state where offshore sand mining will happen - so we need to get it right."
IN THE NEWS
Mr Toole said it was important to hear the latest feedback from members of the Stockton Beach Taskforce, particularly in light of recent coastal erosion along the beach. "We have already identified suitable sources of sand within Stockton Bight and my department will continue to work with Newcastle City Council, as the proponent, for the granting of a mining lease under the Offshore Minerals Act.
"Stockton beach is an iconic stretch of sand in Newcastle and I will continue to forge ahead with the Council to restore suitable sand to the beach."
Mr Crakanthorp said state and federal funding sources were discussed.
"[Wednesday] was more about getting the deputy premier up to speed on all the all the different agencies' responsibilities," he said.
"He wants to have a good look at those responsibilities, put some timeframes against them and costs and work through them."
